The Summerville Lady Green Wave girls tennis season ended Wednesday with a road loss at Wando in the Lower State Semi-Final. After 2 home playoff wins over James Island and West Florence, the region 8AAAAA champs had to travel to Mt Pleasant to face the perennial powerhouse Wando and suffered their 3rd loss of the season to the Warriors. The Wave finished with a perfect 6-0 record in the region and 12-7 overall. Other than Wando, losses included River Bluff who will play Wando in the Lower State Final. The other 3 losses came at the hands of 3 local private school powerhouses in Ashley Hall, Porter Gaud, and Bishop England.
This marks the end of the careers for 5 seniors who have a combined 29 years experience in the program. Paige Reynolds, Sullivan Long, Lizzie Naval, and Dylan Zoeller have played since the 7th grade and Gwen Rast joined the team in the 8th grade. Next year’s team will be lead by multiyear starters Annelise Pagan and Hannah McKee.
“This group of seniors have made a lasting mark on the girls tennis program. They have worked hard over the last 6 years to become a great team evident by the region title and multiple playoff runs. They are all outstanding students and the future is bright for this group of young women. I could not be more proud of them”, said Coach Long.
