What a great night of tennis! Senior Captain, Dontrell Whetsell, really showed what it means to have Green Wave Pride tonight. His opponent, Will Carter, played some of the best tennis I’ve seen from a #3 player all year. For 12 games, Carter barely missed a ball. Dontrell kept waiting for the momentum of the match to shift, but being down 1-4 in the second set, he didn’t look confident that it would. That’s when he changed his game and worked a different strategy. It worked for a couple games, and soon the score was 4-5. Carter started feeling the pressure and finally started making the mistakes Dontrell was waiting for. Dontrell won the next three games, hustling for EVERY ball and took the set 7-5. He carried that momentum into the tie-break and showed our young team what it means to me a senior, and more importantly, a captain. Proud of the determination I saw from him tonight!

McGinnis and Dimuzio had incredibly competitive matches. They both set points up very well and were confident in closing them. The crowd was cheering on almost every point in these two boys’ matches. You could tell that both teams wanted a piece of this Region.

Gajjar and Prathipati were lights out tonight. The were very aggressive, hitting almost every shot they needed to hit. Sometimes, it’s hard to win matches when you have to create your own pace. These two saw the ball like a watermelon tonight.

Naval and Wimberly are really learing how each other play and look stronger every match. Nathu and Clayburn are going to be some really good players, but I would put my boys against almost any two doubles team in the state right now!

My boys came to play tonight. They have had their eyes set on this Region Championship all year. With FD and Ashley Ridge beating West Ashley, we clinched the Region Title with the best record. Next week, we would like to go 6-0 in the region with a win over West Ashley. Time to get back to work!
